Privacy Policy

DeBias ("we", "our", "us") operates the DeBias Chrome extension and the debias.click website. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and Google account ID. We never store your Google password. Article text you submit: When you use the extension to de-bias text, the selected text is sent to our server for AI processing. We do not store, log, or retain the text after processing is complete. It is discarded immediately after the response is sent. Usage counts: We track the number of de-bias requests you make per day to enforce free-tier and pro-tier limits. We store only the count and the date, not the content. Anonymous tokens: If you use the extension without an account, we generate an anonymous token based on a hash of your IP address and user agent to enforce daily limits. No personally identifiable information is stored.

We use your data solely to provide the DeBias service: - Email and password: to authenticate you and manage your account. - Article text: to process your de-bias request and return the result. Not stored after processing. - Usage counts: to enforce daily request limits per your subscription tier. - Anonymous tokens: to enforce limits for users without accounts.

Account data is stored in an encrypted SQLite database on our server in a secure data center. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. All communication between the extension and our server uses HTTPS encryption. Access tokens expire after 15 minutes; refresh tokens expire after 30 days.

We use the following third-party services: - SiliconFlow: AI language model provider. Article text is sent to their API for processing. Their privacy policy applies to data they receive. - Google OAuth: If you choose to sign in with Google. Only your email and display name are shared with us. - Paddle: Payment processing for Pro subscriptions. Paddle handles all payment data directly; we never see or store your card details.

The extension stores authentication tokens in Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local), accessible only to the extension. The website uses cookies for theme preference only. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics, or advertising cookies.

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us. You can uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored data. You can use the extension without creating an account (with reduced daily limits).

DeBias is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
